Stations are an essential part of a city and its people. They harbour all types of travellers, serve many different purposes, and have vital implications to a city’s planning, functionality and character. To support the sector in keeping on track with station development and design, UITP and KONE launched the Stations of the Future project in 2022.
Within the project, two studies were published. While the first report highlights trends impacting the role and functions of stations, the second study identifies solutions that can enhance user experience of stations and attract more people. These solutions address the following key challenges: managing people flows, improving connectivity with the surrounding urban environment, and enhancing station amenities for greater user well-being.
Our virtual station, developed in collaboration with a specialised 3D studio, includes all these solutions using a complete passenger journey through different personas. Each section brings to light the specific challenges faced in these areas and proposes solutions to enhance the user experience.
At UITP and KONE we believe that transport stations are much more than transit points: they have the possibility to be vibrant hubs uplifting an entire city, enhancing the lives of citizens and public transport users. Through this 3D station, we aim to inspire and guide the transformation of public transport stations worldwide.
